Androstene is a natural steroid hormone found in all animals (meat) as well as plants (extracts). It is a metabolite of DHEA that serves as a direct precursor (one step removed) in the natural bio-synthesis of testosterone. (Note: DHEA is two steps removed from the bio-synthesis of testosterone, and converts far less efficiently to testosterone than Androstene). In all mammals,Androstene is produced in the gonads and adrenal glands. The oral form of Androstene is metabolized in the liver to become testosterone, with the help of a zinc-dependent enzyme.
